SXSW 2007 Interactive Pass Contest

That's right folks, just a little over two months to go until 'south-by' kicks off. The interactive component is, of course, what many of us will be heading down for but I know a few people sticking around for the music. (Incidentally, it's really easy to tell the music attendees from the interactive attendees from the film attendees.)

So, I've got an Interactive Pass up for grabs but I'll get to that in a bit. (What, are you in a hurry or sumthin'?)

In what has undoubtedly become the yearly geek pilgrimage, SXSW is a great opportunity to meet a lot of great, smart, fun and talented people. 2006 was my first year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was stuff going on every night and I literally spent each lunch and dinner with a different group of people. Oh, and there's panels where people talk about stuff.

Bowling

Once again, Bryan Veloso is organizing his Avalonstar Bowling Extravaganza which is shaping up to be bigger and better than last year. I highly recommend you sign up if you can make it out.

Last year, I think we confused all the local college kids as a mass of drunken geeks had pretty much taken the place over their bowling alley. This year, if enough people sign up, Bryan expects we'll be able to rent out an entire alley for the night. Fun times.

Oh, and of course, I helped Bryan by putting together the backend for it. My little contribution to help enable some good times!

Speaking

This year I'll also be speaking in "Uniting the Holy Trinity of Web Design" along with Cameron Adams, Dustin Diaz, and Sally Carson. We'll be discussing those three pillars of the web: HTML, CSS and, of course, JavaScript. We'll have to wait and see if any debauchery will ensue.

My own panel submission didn't make it through to the end but it's nice to know that I'll still get a chance to present.

Want to go?

So, all that lead in for this: I have an Interactive Pass up for grabs! That's $275 worth of fun. But, of course, there's a catch! I'm having a little contest:

The "Design a Snook.ca T-shirt so I can go to SXSW contest!"

That's right folks. Between now and Friday, January 12, 2007 23:59:59 EST (GMT-5), put together a design for what you think should be on a Snook.ca T-shirt. It can be funny, it can be serious, it can be whatever you want. Post a link to your entry in the comments of this post. Entries will be reviewed over the weekend with the winner announced Monday, January 15th.

Grab the Snook.ca logo in EPS format.

(And if you think it's too late to go, there's plenty of hotels within walking distance of the conference center still available.)

Damn, I also had an extra Interactive pass (probably for the same reason as you) -- but I wasn't smart enough to do a content. I just gave it to my girlfriend (how boring!). Great idea. Anxious to see the designs. :)

Mine likely has trademark issues and I only spent 10 minutes on this. Yes it took me 10 minutes, I suck.

My entry.

Thanks for a late afternoon diversion. :)

Quick question: what font do you use in your logo?

Jonathan Snook said on January 03, 2007

Matthew: Love the Green Lantern look to it!

Jessica: The font is AF Battersea.

Hey Jon,

Are you looking for a design centered around SxSW, or an anytime-year-round design?

Jonathan Snook said on January 04, 2007

Hugh G: anything you want. :) I'm really leaving it open for everybody to have fun with.

kartooner said on January 04, 2007

I'd like to do a design, just for fun. Does this mean I can use your mug if needed?

Okay, okay, you pick, would you like your face plastered on:

a) Pauly Shore?
b) Cameron Diaz?
c) Wayne Brady
d) Zach Braff
e) David Bowie

Let me know. :) Great contest, by the way, for those who are eligible to win.

Jonathan Snook said on January 04, 2007

Well, if I have a choice, I think I'd have to say Zach Braff. :)

T-Shirt Design

Quick, simple and I would gladly donate my pass, if I won, to a co-worker as my pass should be on it's way.

Hope to see you there.
